Being Pro Immigrant Is So In This Season

Being Pro Immigrant Is So In This Season

By Shawn Jain, Media Strategist, ACLU at 2:10pm
Wake up in the morning feeling not like P.Diddy (sorry, Ke$ha), but instead feeling like wow, another official is saying something really pro-immigrant, and it's fantastic.

Image Control at Its Worst: The White House Immigration Chat

By Shawn Jain, Media Strategist, ACLU at 3:56pm

About midway through yesterday's immigration chat with Vice President Biden and Domestic Policy Advisor Cecilia Muñoz, I started to get the sneaking suspicion that the conversation was a tightly controlled event, with the questioners chosen beforehand,…

Should LGBT Activists in India Just Give Up?

Should LGBT Activists in India Just Give Up?

By Shawn Jain, Media Strategist, ACLU at 3:09pm

Late last night, like many LGBT South Asian Americans, I waited anxiously to see how India's Supreme Court would rule on a colonial-era law that criminalized homosexuality. The ruling came in just after midnight Eastern Standard Time, and it was a…

On the Agenda: March 10-14

By Shawn Jain, Media Strategist, ACLU at 2:35pm

It may still only be 2014 on your Gregorian calendar, but for the political gossip press, it might as well be 2016 because it seems like all they can talk about is the presidential election that is 2.5 years away.

On the Agenda: February 24-28

On the Agenda: November 18-22

By Shawn Jain, Media Strategist, ACLU at 10:27am

Life in Congress last week wasn't as entertaining as it was in Toronto.

That is, unless you love hearing about Obamacare all the time.

Assuming you don't, there is actually a lot going on in Congress before everyone turns into a pumpkin…

On the Agenda: October 28-November 1

By Shawn Jain, Media Strategist, ACLU at 10:57am

Few things captivate Washington like a scandal, and this past week the "scandal" has been the dysfunction of the Obamacare website and anger among our allies about NSA spying.

Health care reform and NSA spying?

It's good to know that…

Not Just the Face of the Immigration Reform Movement

By Shawn Jain, Media Strategist, ACLU at 3:29pm

Every movement needs a face – someone whose story transcends traditional dividing lines and has the capacity to change hearts and minds. For immigration reform, it's not just one story, but rather the collective stories of DREAMers, undocumented…
