Discrimination Under the Guise of ‘Religious Freedom’ Is Still Discrimination, President Trump

Following press reports that the White House was considering issuing an executive order that would roll back and undermine nondiscrimination protections for LGBT people, the administration made clear that President Trump would not repeal a landmark executive order signed by President Obama in 2014 that prohibits businesses that contract with the federal government from discriminating against LGBT people.

But this is only part of the story.

President Trump has surrounded himself with a vice president and cabinet members who have repeatedly sought to sanction discrimination against LGBT people and women in the name of religion, and nothing in the White House’s statement makes clear that these efforts are now behind us. During the campaign, Trump pledged to sign into law the so-called “First Amendment Defense Act,” the most sweeping, anti-LGBT bill in Congress. In addition, Trump transition officials reportedly gave private “assurances” to a member of Congress who was trying to attach an anti-LGBT religious exemption to the defense bill that the new administration would address the issue early in 2017. Needless to say, there remain significant concerns about what the Trump administration may be planning.

Religious freedom is a core American value that we cherish and defend,  one that is protected in the Constitution. We all have the freedom of belief regarding God and religion, including the freedom to act on those beliefs. But freedom of religion doesn’t give any of us the right to discriminate against other people.

Any executive order that would sanction discrimination under the guise of “religious freedom” would be seen for exactly what it is: a direct assault on the rights and dignity of LGBT people and women. The ACLU has a message for President Trump: You cannot authorize discrimination by executive fiat. We won’t stand for it. Not now. Not ever.

If the administration continues to pursue policies that are unlawful and unconstitutional, the ACLU is prepared to continue to take them to court to protect the civil rights and civil liberties of everyone in this country.

I'm a Christian and I certainly pray for my president. But as a Christian I follow the teachings of Jesus and ultimately God. Donald is not God. He is clearly in need of prayer. I can and will not support him. Not all republicans are Christian and not all Christians are republican. Not only that, to hear people standing up for a man who has sexually assaulted and harassed women, and who lies (bold face) to me causes me to wonder if just who those who continue to believe in Donald are? Is it your ideology you believe in? Or his lies? Because you may pray for me all you wish...but you had better be on your knees praying for your president or country and out there telling him how to behave, because the bible states quite clearly that prayer without action is worthless. Not only that...Jesus was a refugee. He was from the middle east... and he was a refugee fleeing white guys! So if you sit around at home... watching your favorite TV show, and leaving comments and offering to "pray" for people... you really need to get a life. Or perhaps.. do what Jesus would do... die for a cause between 2 people released from prison that he considered himself equal to. READ your BIBLE FOLKS!

Well the bible is has no moral authority whatsoever supporting mass genocide (God did it himself multiple times), the killing of gays, and that a women who was raped could be bought by the man who raped her. Jesus is a cool guy sure but a lot of it is archaic shit written by men who live 2000 years ago who were products of their time. Not saying christians are evil or anything everyone's an individual but don't use the bible like it's some moral high ground.

GO ACLU!!!!! CHEERING FOR U! Thank you for protecting the American People.... That is what Jesus would do. Jesus flipped the money changers tables. On behalf of Christians... thank you!

Jesus flipped the money changers' tables because they were capitalizing on the poor in His Father's House (The Holy Temple) instead of helping them get closer to God the Father. ACLU is not a Christian organization. At all.

There is something wrong with a man thinking he is a woman or a woman thinking she is a man. It is mutilation with dangerous hormones. Most transexuals were sexually abused in childhood which messed up their minds and transexuals sexually abuse children. Transexuals are mutilated gays and lesbians. I don’t care what others say but mutilating a man or woman to make them fake members of opposite sex is gay/lesbian. And gay/lesbian groups are apologists for Transexuals which is why the word T is there. They must abolish this surgical mutilation.

All transexuals are homosexual/lesbian as the act of mutilating to become false opposite sex is itself an act of homosexuality/lesbianism-sad maiming and make this illegal. Finally, sex change maimings which is mutilating some1 to make them fake members of opposite sex is comparable to trying to make a man a fake animal because he thinks he is an animal trapped in a human body. Most feminists are not speaking against this. 1 would hope that feminists would oppose the mutilation that happened to Chastity Sun Bono as feminists have spoken against Female Genital Mutilation which happens in some nations. Transexuals are mutilations which no Dr. should take part in, yet most feminists are not condemning this female genital and breast mutilation as what happened to Chastity S. Bono where her healthy breasts were mutilated, dangerous hormone shots and her genitals mutilated.

You need to get your head out of your ass. LGBTQ people are just like everybody else. Sexual orientation isn't something that dictates who you are and what you do and do not support. It's just whether you like boys, girls, or both. Simple as that.
