Mr. Panetta: Call Off the Wrecking Ball

Last week, the CIA announced it would shutter its overseas black sites, where many current Guantánamo detainees, including the former CIA detainees profiled in the Red Cross report declassified last week, were held — and tortured — after their initial capture.

On Monday, attorneys — including Nancy Hollander of the ACLU's John Adams Project — representing Guantánamo detainee Abd Al-Rahim Hussain Mohammed Al-Nashiri, sent a letter to CIA director Leon Panetta asking him not to take a wrecking ball to the overseas CIA black sites just yet. Rather, the sites should be preserved as evidence of Al-Nashiri's treatment during his detention there. The attorneys write:

The CIA's secret prison facilities and the inquisition-like treatment meted out to its prisoners were a tragic, immoral and illegal period in our history that we all hope has come to an end. But its effects are enduring, especially on someone like Mr. Al-Nashiri who, according to the ICRC report, lived through the horror chambers of at least three different secret prisons. Those buildings, interrogation cells, prisoner cells, shackles, water boards and other equipment must be preserved until such time as we have an adequate opportunity to document it and a court can determine the relevance and materiality of this evidence. As a criminal defendant, the Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Amendments to the United States Constitution will entitle him to discovery of exculpatory evidence and this is surely exculpatory evidence.

The CIA has admitted that Al-Nashiri was subjected to waterboarding while in CIA custody. Videotapes depicting his abusive interrogations have already been destroyed by the agency, and are the subject of ongoing ACLU litigation. And the same Bush administration officials believed to have given the go-ahead for the torture and abuse in the first place are being indicted in Spain this week: former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, former OLC attorneys Jay Bybee and John Yoo, former Defense Department counsel William Haynes, former Undersecretary of Defense Douglas J. Feith and former counsel to the vice president David Addington.

If you haven't already, please send a letter to Attorney General Holder and urge him to appoint an independent prosecutor to investigate torture crimes under the Bush administration.

TORTURE CRIMES AREN'T JUST A FOREIGN AFFAIR.

AND THE U.S. JUSTICE DEPARTMENT KNOWS IT.

BECAUSE THE BUSH-CHENEY DOJ APPROVED THE DOMESTIC USE OF MICROWAVE RADIATION 'DIRECTED ENERGY WEAPONS'...

...AND IN FACT HAS DISSEMINATED THESE WEAPONS NATIONWIDE IN CONJUNCTION WITH A SECURITY/MILITARY/INTEL 'MULTI-ACTION COORDINATED ACTION' PROGRAM AGAINST SO-CALLED 'TARGETED INDIVIDUALS.'

TO: President Obama, White House staff (c/o Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod)

Mr. President:

First things first. You must first restore civil and human rights in America before your economic prescriptions will result in a cure. You must immediately join with GOP defenders of the Constitution to dismantle the nationwide extrajudicial punishment network...

...authoritarian bureaucrats and security/intel officers and their nationwide network of "organized community gang stalkers" -- citizen vigilantes fronted by federally-funded volunteer programs.

This nationwide, Gestapo-like operation has made a mockery of the judicial system for the past eight years and has claimed many unjustly "targeted" victims from all strata of society.

Crimes against humanity are being committed across the nation via the use of so-called "directed energy (microwave radiation) weapons" which the Bush D.O.J. recently confirmed are being widely deployed to police forces nationwide.

These RADIATION weapons emit silent, pulsed bursts of various forms of radiation -- degrading and damaging the health of those on the receiving end as well as their operators.

This weaponry has NO PLACE in civilized society -- much less in the hands of security personnel who interact with the public, or with the nation's leaders. The widespread deployment of this weaponry virtually assures its misuse.

Imagine if rogue actors tried to use its silent, deadly force to induce illness or to disorient, prematurely age, sicken or disable our political leaders.

Perhaps they already have.

Victims of this extrajudicial punishment network also see their finances and livelihoods expropriated and destroyed by coordinated "multi-agency action" "programs of personal financial destruction" that deny them due process of law while degrading their lives and destroying their families.

The IRS, under Bush-Cheney, has been transmogrified into an ideological
weapon of social control and recrimination by these covert "multi-agency actions."

Obama administration officials must address these abuses IMMEDIATELY, before these affronts to the Constitution destroy more American families -- and subvert the Obama presidency.

I just wanted to say, I am a veteran of the Gulf War and Somalia. You people are out of your minds. These people who are being detained would slice your throaght quickly if given the opportunity. We do not owe them our American Rights or our constitution. They live only to Kill us and others who may not agree with Islam or Arab ways. I saw this up close in Saudio Arabia and Kuwait as well and in Somalia. You have no idea, They have beheaded civilians, bombed civilians and tortured there own and others, shot, cut, abused. You need to address this with the U.N. cause you are going to allow these murderers to enter our country and allow them a Democratic Hearing when they do not beleive in Democracy and want to destroy all democracy's. why cause they think Islam is only way to live and Jews, Christian, and non Islamic people must die. I am pleading with you on part of the many veterans who have been suicide bomb, shot at and yes the missing and tortured as well. Stop your madness.

Hate to burst your bubble but those foreign terrorist thugs do not have any rights in the US legal system because they are not US citizens.

ACLU sucks at law knowledge but is great at spreading misinformation to your minion bot drones.

Thank Goodness for the Spanish.

It seems that we are being subject to policy by increments. The administration is slowly telling us it is not going to prosecute anyone for enabling, authorizing or ordering torture.

No one is above the laws I choose to enforce.
