Using "Terror" to Squash Dissent

Word is going around Minneapolis that the FBI is looking for a few good spies to break up the dangerous world of vegan potlucks. That's right — the nation's newest terrorist threat is not from explosives or Al Qaeda — you should be worrying about the imminent threat of soy dogs and tasteless, overly dry chocolate cake.

The FBI is actually looking for moles to infiltrate the not-so-shady world of bicycle enthusiasts and vegetarians to learn more about protests planned for the 2008 Republican National Convention. The problem with this infiltration is that they aren't just seeking to disrupt crime, they are trying to stop the protests altogether. At the 2004 RNC convention in New York, the police cracked down on political speech, protest, and dissent. The NYCLU has tons of great documents that chronicle how the NYPD went about using fear over "terrorism" to justify squashing free speech. This summer's conventions, in Minneapolis and Denver, are shaping up to be a redux of the 2004 debacle — anyone else remember the "free speech zone" cages? —where the FBI used the guise of Joint Terrorism Task Forces to suppress speech.

Under any reasonable and law-abiding administration, the United States of America would be regarded as a free speech zone.

Oldfart

Uh. That denies that the government has any right to protect its citizens. This is really squishy ground here. Two political parties (which are actually, clubs since the Constitution makes no reference to Parties) wish to hold a convention for the purpose of picking candidates to run for office. Other people who may or may not be part of these two clubs wish to demonstrate. I feel these two parties have every right in the world to control exactly who enters their conference area. In other words, they have every right to throw disruptive demostrators out so that they can get on with their business. Outside their conference area, they have no control over who demostrates what or where. But the local police force has a responsibility to ensure that club members are able to get to their club meeting without harassment or physical threats. Especially if the club has paid for the cost of that protection. Furthermore, in light of the current possibility of a terrorist act of some kind (what a great target!), the federal government may feel it has the right to protect even the demonstrators from such an act. So, just how do you all propose that the club membership, the local police and the federal agencies do that?

I'd love to hear your alternate plans.

Oldfart

Oh yes, I forgot, that is NOT to say the local police and the feds did not violate civil rights in the past and won't do so in the future. I'd just like to know how YOU would do it. In other words, just what IS the correct way to allow these clubs to hold their meetings and conduct business in peace while allowing others to demonstrate peacefully and protecting both from possible violence?

Jkat

threatening us with soy dogs and vegetable mudcake is a crime against your readers ... it's a pure terror tactic ...

shame on you ..

What you've heard about coming in Minneapolis is only the tip of the iceberg from what I've seen happening in Washington DC already where Police are tazing innocent civilians exercising their rights under the First Amendment (you remember what that is don't you), yeah I know it's been so long since anyone had any Rights, but this bullshit has to stop and ACLU where are you???!!! Injustice lives and reigns supreme right here in the good ol' USA when grandmothers are attacked on our streets because the have audacity to recite the Bill Of Rights. A college student gets tazed at an assembly to hear John Kerry speak and five cops pounce on him, when he resists asking loudly "why are you hasseling me?" they announce he's resisting arrest. He demands to know what the charges are and for someone to help him, everyone looks on powerless to act for fear of being next!!! Is the America we know and love? What's more are fighting for in an endless war in Iraq, for what reason? What are our interests over there that we are protecting. Americans can't travel freely if their names get on the "No Fly" list...is this the "New World Order"? So if you think Minneapolis is something to fear, you'd better not go downtown in your city late at night. That's when it can get real ugly fast if Cops are in a bad mood and you don't smile friendly at them......you've been warned. Now what are we going to do about it??? ACLU, what are our new Rights under this New World Order??? How about another video....

It has been clearly demonstrated since the Vietnam era that it has been the FBI and their paid thugs who infiltrate and then cause the violence during peaceful demonstrations. So to answer the oldfart's question. Put the FBI and police in "free speech zones" and let the right of free speech and peaceful demonstrations continue. Or call marshal law which is basically what they implement.
In the countless demonstrations I have participated in we educate and reeducate participants in nonviolent behavior and recourse should anyone stoop to violence against us.
Further, during the Washington demonstration against the World Trade Organization I received pictures of some of the things that were occurring. For instance, a motorcycle policeman running his bike over a young man sitting on the ground. And a the enraged scarlet face of an older white man as he lifted his club to bring it down on the face of the person taking his picture. I looked for these pictures and don't have them on this computer or I'd show you. In addition, the police with the FBI broke into the organizational communication offices of the protesting groups and smashed or took away their equipment. Thus they were unable to communicate effectively with participants to aid them in avoiding police violence.
Oldfart, if you had ever been in the streets demonstrating against anything our government leaders were propagating you would know who the real terrorists are. And calling the well oiled machine that runs our utterly corrupt governmental organizations a club doesn't change their power or culpability in smashing decent.
How can one look at what happens in to Tibetan monks in China and the disgrasville

Further, during the Washington demonstration against the World Trade Organization (an economical debacle) I received pictures of some of the things that were occurring. For instance, a motorcycle policeman running his bike over a very young man who was sitting on the ground. And the hate filled scarlet face of an older white man as he lifted his club to bring it down on the face of the person, on the ground, who was taking his picture. I looked for these pictures and don't have them on this computer or I'd show you. In addition, the police with the FBI broke into the organizational communication offices of the protesting groups and smashed or took away their equipment. So Oldfart, I suggest we first teach everyone what has truly occurred during demonstrations, identify the real culprits of violence and eliminate their impact. Results: Democracy in action.
But then maybe you thought the murders at Kent state were a good idea. After all those children who died were not allowing the bloody business of our country to continue comfortably.

Here is a link to a journalistic peace that identifies and lists researched interference by our government. It is a must read. http://firedoglake.com/2008/05/25/watching-the-

When I go to YouTube and search the following video: Ron Paul vs Police State. I am made aware of many plausable things.

Is Congress aware that George Bush has issued several Executive Orders giving him complete control of every entity in our beloved country. Am I being delusional when I see on a video one of many concentration camps that have been built and are ready for US citizens that disagree with the government.

If George Bush and Cheney are not impeached soon, Bush will cancel the 2008 presidential election. Bush will attack Iran and then declare Martial Law. He will use any excuse to declare Marshal Law. He will do so to "protect the American people." I am convinced that very view Americans use the Internet to get real news and information. The average family has too many responsibilities and they have no time to logon to the Internet.

Television has dumbed-down our population and they are lulled into watching the crap on cable. The mainstream news has been programmed for consumption by the public in general. I am 73 years young and have been tracking the Bush Administration and Congress since 2000 and I am scared. A man that was never elected to be President is destroying our country. Amazing.

Iran was prepared to talk to the USA and Cheney blocked that action. I learned this on www.realnews.com
George Bush dissolved our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Americans have no rights because Bush was able to get Congress to sign-off on several documents that gave Bush his fascist powers, Senator Kit Bond will give Bush anything he wants. He is an ass. Supposedly the concentration camps have been built from the east coast to the west coast. The "closed" military bases have given the military the cover that they need to follow the orders of their Commander and Chief.

I pray that someone will come along and prove that I am wrong. I need someone to join me. My email address is kimbadog99@hotmail.com My name is Robert and I love my country.
