10 Tips, One Vote

Tomorrow, millions of Americans will head to the polls to flex their democratic muscles. We hope you'll be among them, and we hope you'll take our advice. Here are 10 quick tips for Election Day:

  1. Don't forget to vote! Remind your friends and family too.
  2. Check your voter registration status.
  3. Locate your polling place and note the hours of operation. (This site has a handy polling place locator.)
  4. Plan ahead, particularly if you require some form of assistance.
  5. Get to the polls early in the day to avoid the last-minute rush.
  6. Bring a valid form of identification, even if it's not required.
  7. Wear comfortable and adequate clothing in case of long lines or inclement weather. Do not wear candidate-specific clothing.
  8. Take your time and read all instructions carefully. Ask for help if you need it.
  9. Be wary of rumors and false information that may be designed to discourage you from voting. As long as you are eligible, you should vote!
  10. Report any voting problems or irregularities to state officials and/or call the ACLU's voter protection hotline at 877-523-2792.

Have more questions? You never know what might happen at the polls, so get informed before you go. Visit the ACLU's voter empowerment website for information about voting in your state. Make us proud, America: know your rights and use them!
