The Stewardship and Annual Fund Manager is responsible for the management of the annual fund program and a tiered stewardship program. Duties will include the execution of the year-end giving appeal, and donor engagement and stewardship to maximize revenue.

The position reports to the Development Director and works closely with Development team of five; the Director of Strategic Engagement; the Executive Director; and other ACLU of Illinois staff, board, and volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage a tiered stewardship plan for annual donors of $1,000+ so that individual donors are retained and upgraded.
  • Manage gift intake and ensure a donor-centered acknowledgment process.
  • Manage and execute the annual fund calendar.
  • Secure visits with donors and directly solicit gifts.
  • Work closely with program colleagues to develop attractive programmatic materials and stewardship reports.
  • In close coordination with colleagues, plan and implement donor-related cultivation and stewardship events, mailings, and activities for donors at all giving levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Development Director.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with progressive responsibility and demonstrated success in the management of the annual fund process, stewardship events, social media, and giving appeals.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain positive relationships with donors.
  • Personal commitment to and enthusiasm for human rights and civil liberties, and high ethical standards.
  • Experience planning and implementing donor and prospect events.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • High degree of self-motivation, persistence, and organization, including the ability to work independently on assignments and projects.
  • Ability to seek and accept guidance from colleagues and supervisors.
  • Ability to transform the complex work of the ACLU into meaningful touches and communication with donors.
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Personal enthusiasm, inquisitiveness, creativity, and sense of humor.
  • Excellent office and computer skills, including database management, Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet research. Knowledge of fundraising software (Salesforce preferred) and design software (Adobe Creative Suite preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience, within the parameters of the ACLU compensation scale.
