The premiere season of The ACLU Freedom Files, an unprecedented new television series from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and award-winning producer/director Robert Greenwald's Brave New Films (Outfoxed, Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price), will be released on DVD on Tuesday, July 25th. The 2-disc set, which will offer subtitles in Spanish, Arabic, and closed captioning for the hearing impaired, will retail for $24.95.
Distributed by The Disinformation Company, the collector's edition two-disc set features ten 30-minute episodes produced and directed by Emmy award winner Jeremy Kagan, plus over an hour of exclusive "extras" including interviews with Jeremy Kagan, Robert Greenwald, the ACLU's Anthony D. Romero, and additional material from comedians Lewis Black, Margaret Cho, Judy Gold and Warren Hutcherson.
The DVD set is available online and in retail stores including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Virgin, Musicland and J&R Music World.
Through a mix of interviews, documentary footage, re-creations, comedy, drama, music and animation, The ACLU Freedom Files strips away the sound bites to reveal how civil liberties affect real people everyday, regardless of political affiliation.
"We created this series to take our message directly to the American people," said ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero. "We want to bring them face to face with the individuals behind the headlines and show that the fight to protect our hard-won freedoms is a constant struggle."
"Not only is the ACLU highlighting topics and issues that desperately need to be addressed, but they are doing it in an entirely new way," said Robert Greenwald, Executive Producer of the The ACLU Freedom Files. "The ACLU is the first nonprofit of its kind to have a series on television. And with the DVD release of The ACLU Freedom Files, we're reaching the general public like never before."
The ACLU Freedom Files airs monthly on Court TV, as part of the network's Saturday "In Pursuit of Justice" programming.
