ACLU Letter to House Ways and Means Committee Opposing Unconstitutional Religious Favoritism Provision in Tax Bill

This November 3, 2017 letter from the ACLU to the House Ways and Means Committee opposes Section 5201 in H.R. 1, the so-called Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, because it would unconstitutionally give religious organizations special tax benefits and privileges that are unavailable to all other nonreligious 501(c)(3) organizations. The provision would allow houses of worship to endorse candidates for elected office. The letter urges removal of Section 5201 from the tax bill.
