This October 2, 2017 letter was sent to the House opposing the Legal Workforce Act (H.R. 3711) or any other proposal that would make the burdensome and flawed E-Verify program mandatory. E-Verify is a federal program used by employers to check the work eligibility of prospective employees. The ACLU has long opposed E-Verify because it threatens privacy and security, opens the door to employer discrimination and abuse, and is riddled with errors that could delay individuals ability to work, without meaningful redress.
