ACLU Letter To Senate Members Regarding CIA Destruction Of 92 Interrogation Videotapes

Document Date: March 2, 2009

Even More Reason For Broad Criminal Investigation And Congressional Oversight

The American Civil Liberties Union received the attached letter fromthe Department of Justice earlier today, which provides important newinformation on the magnitude of the Bush Administration’s destruction ofCIA videotapes of interrogations. The information was provided to a federalcourt in Freedom of Information Act litigation brought by the ACLU toobtain documents on the use of torture and abuse. The litigation hasproduced over 100,000 pages of documents during the past five years, butonly heavily redacted documents from the CIA, which fall far short ofmeaningful disclosure.
