The ACLU Supports H.R. 5283, the DUE PROCESS Act of 2016

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) offers qualified support for H.R. 5283, the Deterring Undue Enforcement by Protecting Rights of Citizens from Excessive Searches and Seizures (DUE PROCESS) Act of 2016. The bill is an important first step, offering substantial procedural protections for those subjected to civil asset forfeiture. However, the ACLU will continue to work with Members of Congress to eliminate the profit incentives driving forfeiture.
