ACLU Testimony at House Hearing on Threat Posed by Government Use of AI

Document Date: July 16, 2025

The House Judiciary Committee held a subcommittee hearing on July 16, 2025 examining "Artificial Intelligence and Criminal Exploitation: A New Era of Risk.” Testifying at this hearing was privacy and technology expert Cody Venzke, a senior policy counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union. Venzke underscored the need to protect civil rights and civil liberties when addressing criminal uses of AI.

He also sounded the alarm on federal policies that may open the door to invasive AI and surveillance, including Trump’s plan to create detailed dossiers on every one in the U.S. by “consolidating” our data across agencies all while feeding this information to untested, potentially inaccurate AI systems.
