ACLU Vote Recommendation for Rep. Massie, Rep. Grayson, and Rep. Lamborn Amendments to H.R. 2578

This letter recommends that the House vote “YES” on three separate amendments proposed by Reps. Massie, Grayson and Lamborn to H.R 2578, the Commerce, Justice and Science Committee appropriations bill. The Massie amendment prohibits NIST from working with the NSA or CIA to deliberately weaken encryption standards. The Grayson Amendment would help protect journalists from being forced to reveal confidential sources. And the Lamborn amendment prevents the use of license plate readers to monitor gun show attendees. All three amendments are positive steps toward improving privacy and limiting surveillance.
