Coalition Letter: ACLU and Other Groups Won’t Support Current Version of House Surveillance Bill

Document Date: October 13, 2017
Download document

This letter to the leaders of House Judiciary Committee urges them to strengthen the USA Liberty Act, which fails to completely address concerns with the so-called “backdoor search loophole.” The bill would make changes to and extend the government’s spying powers under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which is set to expire at the end of the year.

The signers write that this cannot support the USA Liberty Act at its current stage without changes to strengthen the warrant requirement for searching databases containing Section 702 information.
