The ACLU joined this coalition letter calling on Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar to rescind the recent guidance for hospitals to submit COVID-19 data reports to HHS via a system managed by a private contractor, which limits public access and raises concerns about politicization of the data. In order to preserve transparent data reporting and promote public trust, this key data collection effort should be returned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
