The ACLU joined this November 16 coalition letter along with 55 other organizations in opposition to the ICE’s proposed new Extreme Vetting Initiative. This initiative is part of a strategy to use technology to conduct vetting of visa applicants by consistently monitoring activities on the internet, including social media, throughout their immigration process. The letter urges that the Department of Homeland Security abandon this effort as it would be inaccurate and discriminatory and threatens the freedoms of speech and assembly, civil liberties, and human rights.
