The ACLU joined this March 10 coalition letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, addressing his statement at a Feb. 7 House Homeland Security Committee hearing that his department would consider requiring visa applicants to provide log-in information for their social media accounts. The letter urges him to reject any such proposal as a condition of entry into the United States, and also raises concerns about reports of Customs and Border Protection officials conducting intensive examination of travelers’ digital lives.
