This coalition letter, signed by the ACLU, calls for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (OGR) to investigate and address the recent disclosure that the NSA conducted surveillance on Congress. In December 2015, the Wall Street Journal reported that the NSA, as part of their surveillance of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, collected the content of U.S. lawmakers’ private conversations. This letter urges OGR to hold public hearings on the NSA’s surveillance, to publically share the guidance the NSA follows when it collects the communications of those in the legislative of judicial branches, and to develop legislation to limit the collection of these kinds of communications in the future.
