The ACLU joined a coalition letter to thank members of congress for adopting amendment #13 to H.R. 3055, the “minibus” appropriations measure considered by the House of Representatives. Amendment #13 was adopted by voice vote and prohibited the use of funds by the Department of Justice to seek and accept “adoptive seizures. This is an important step towards reforming our nation’s civil-forfeiture laws and protecting the due-process rights of all Americans.
