On March 14, 2018, the ACLU submitted an urgent request to the IACHR asking that the Commission quickly intervene in the State of Missouri’s hasty execution of Russell Bucklew. That same day, the Commission confirmed that it contacted the U.S. Government to ensure that the sentence against Mr. Bucklew is not carried out until the Commission has heard the case on its merits. This is a historically quick response from the IACHR and it underscores the importance of Mr. Bucklew’s case for human rights.
