The ACLU joined Leadership Conference coalition partners on this set of comments to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding its Modernization of Media Regulation initiative, opposing any proposal to delay or eliminate broadcaster diversity reporting obligations. The most recent data released by the FCC demonstrates intolerably low levels of minority and female broadcast ownership. A decision by the FCC to reduce the obligations on broadcasters to report this data would run counter to the principle of promoting diverse media, be inconsistent with good governance, and violate court directives.
