On December 21, 2015, 22 organizations signed a letter asking President Obama to direct the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to update its Open Government Plan as required by administration policy.
Following a 2009 Presidential memorandum on transparency and open government, OMB issued an Open Government Directive requiring each agency to publish an Open Government Plan to detail how it will improve transparency and integrate public participation and collaboration into its activities. The directive also required that the plan be updated every two years. But OMB has failed to release an open government plan in 2012 and 2014 after initially doing so in 2010. This letter urges the president to direct OMB to take immediate steps to comply with the Open Government Directive and update its plan in line with a 2014 guidance from the White House Office of Science and Technology.
