ACLU, Human Rights First, and U.S. Civil Society Organizations Joint Statement on UN OHCHR Global Alliance for Human Rights

Document Date: June 15, 2026

On June 11, 2026, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights launched the Global Alliance for Human Rights, in anticipation of the 80th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 2028. At a time when human rights around the world face unprecedented pressure — from widespread acts of violence and the rise of authoritarianism to shrinking civic space and the erosion of multilateral cooperation — the Global Alliance offers a vital and timely framework for collective action to renew and expand commitment to human rights around the world.

The ACLU and Human Rights First co-authored the following joint statement welcoming the creation of the Global Alliance, endorsed by 28 other civil society organizations based in the United States.
