FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:CONTACT: 212 549-2666, media@aclu.orgLAS VEGAS – Tod Story, executive director, of the ACLU of Nevada released the following statement in response to Senator Reid’s announced retirement:”Senator Reid will be missed when he retires in 2017, and we thank him for his 40 plus years of public service. In our nearly 50 years, the ACLU of Nevada has worked with Reid to strengthen civil liberties and recognize the rights of all people. While we may not have agreed on every problem, or every solution, we have had the honor of working with the senator on marriage equality, women’s rights, the rights of immigrants, and employment discrimination. We will continue to work with Reid to restore privacy and due process to the people. With the scheduled sunset of surveillance authority in the Patriot Act on June 1, now is the time to end unbridled surveillance of Americans. We hope there will be significant progress toward that goal.”

Every month, you'll receive regular roundups of the most important civil rights and civil liberties developments. Remember: a well-informed citizenry is the best defense against tyranny.
