ACLU Public Comment Opposing Trump Administration Proposal to Restrict Protest Rights in Washington, D.C.

Comment Submitted to National Park Service

The Trump administration is proposing to dramatically limit the right to demonstrate near the White House and on the National Mall. The proposed rule changes were made by the National Park Service, which administers the areas. The proposal, which threatens First Amendment rights, would close 80 percent of the White House sidewalk, put new limits on spontaneous demonstrations, and open the door to charging fees for protesting.

Members of the public can submit comments on the proposal until October 15 here.
