ACLU Statement for Record of Brown v Board Hearing
The ACLU submitted this letter for the record of an April 30 hearing in the House Education and Labor Committee on the 65th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision. The Department of Education and Congress have critical roles in ensuring educational equity and a broad array of civil rights, whose current status we examine in this letter. Brown goes to the heart of these civil rights. It is critical that the federal government stand vigilantly against the erosion of progress made in the 65 years since the case was decided, and vigorously pursue the fulfillment of its promise.
