Coalition Letter to Congress on Treasury FOIA

Document Date: May 9, 2017

“The ACLU joined this May 9, 2017 letter calling on Rep. Jeb Hensarling, Chair of the House Committee on Financial Services, to reconsider and rescind his recent Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) guidance to the Department of Treasury. Hensarling in April had advised Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin that his committee would retain control of communications between the committee and agency for the purposes of FOIA requests – thereby restricting the ability of the public to use FOIA to access those documents. This letter illustrates why Hensarling’s justifications are incorrect, and states that the agency must release these records if requested.”
