Coalition Letter to the House Judiciary Committee Regarding Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats’ Decision to Abandon Efforts to Estimate the Number of Americans Whose Communications Are Incidentally Collected Under Section 702 of the Foreign Intel

This June 12, 2017 coalition letter urges House Judiciary Committee Chairman Goodlatte and Ranking Member Conyers to use all powers at their disposal to obtain from the Director of National Intelligence, Dan Coats, an estimate of the number of Americans whose communications are collected under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Despite previous commitments to the committee, Director Coats testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee in June that he would not be providing an estimate.
