Coalition Letter on OLC Transparency Provision in FY2020 Appropriations

Department of Justice to provide a list of the titles, authors, and dates of issuance of all final Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) opinions. OLC, which provides authoritative legal opinions that are binding on the executive branch, currently operates with too much secrecy to the detriment of Congressional oversight and public understanding of the law. By requiring the Department of Justice to report basic information on the OLC opinions that are in effect, the proposal will bring much needed transparency and accountability to this powerful government office.
