This coalition letter, signed by the ACLU, as part of the National Coalition for Public Education, urges opposition to S. 2711, the Native American Education Opportunity Act. This bill would expand access and funding to Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) which can be used like vouchers for private school education. Like vouchers, ESAs divert desperately-needed federal resources away from the primary school system students attend to fund the education of a few, select students in alternative settings. ESAs and voucher programs also lack accountability, do not improve educational outcomes of students, and strip students of rights.
