Coalition Letter Urging House to Oppose Reauthorization of the D.C. School Voucher Program in 2017 Financial Services Appropriations Bill

Document Date: June 24, 2016

This coalition letter, signed by the ACLU, urges the House of Representatives to oppose reauthorization of the District of Columbia’s private school voucher program as part of the FY 2017 Financial Services Appropriations bill. The letter argues that the D.C. voucher program, like all other private school voucher programs, takes badly-needed money away from public schools and funnels to it private schools, despite a lack of conclusive evidence of improved student achievement. In addition, the voucher program strips students of their civil and constitutional rights when they attend private schools, despite the fact that those schools receive federal funds.
