Coalition Letter Urging the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions to Ensure that an Individual with Civil Rights Experience is Appointed to Head the Office for Civil Rights in the Department of Education

This April 24, 2017 letter from The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, signed by the ACLU, expresses concerns to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions about the seriousness with which the Department of Education is approaching its responsibility to protect students from discrimination and ensure equal access to education. The letter urges the committee to conduct public hearings and thoroughly vet any nominee to head the Office for Civil Rights to ensure they have a demonstrated record of support for civil rights law and protecting marginalized students.
