Sign-On Letter to Senate in Support of S. 337, the FOIA Improvement Act

Document Date: March 14, 2016

The ACLU joined dozens of other open government groups in this March 14 sign-on letter to the Senate in support of S. 337, the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) Improvement Act. The legislation, which the ACLU supported upon its introduction in February 2015, would strengthen existing law by, among other changes, codifying the presumption of openness standard for government disclosure of information. The letter, which urges for the bill’s earliest possible passage, was sent at the beginning of Sunshine Week – a nationwide initiative to draw attention to the importance of open government and the need to strengthen transparency at all governmental levels.
