WASHINGTON — In a 4-3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court today upheld the race-conscious admissions program at the University of Texas at Austin. The ruling means the school will be able to continue using race as one of multiple factors in admissions decisions. The American Civil Liberties Union filed an amicus brief in this case.

Dennis Parker, director of the ACLU’s Racial Justice Program, had this reaction:

“This decision reaffirms the value of diversity in higher education and preserves the ability of colleges and universities to further that value through well thought out admissions plans.”
