For those of you who don’t know, a Navy JAG, accused of leaking a list of detainees to a non-profit group, went on trial this week:
A defense counsel, Navy Lt. Justin Henderson, said Monday that Diaz, a 17-year military veteran, had a “crisis of conscience” during a six-month tour at the Guantanamo prison and didn’t believe that the names were a national security secret.
While I’m not about to condone the disclosure of classified material (see the Plame case), this all sounds awfully “A Few Good Men” to me. What is it about JAGs, Gitmo and the Bush administration? Remember that David Iglesias was the real-life Tom Cruise. Maybe the current White House is kind of like Diogenes—always looking for an honest lawyer (to prosecute or fire).
