The Padilla trial begins next month, and the “dirty bomb” charge–so prominent after his arrest at O’Hare, transfer to military custody, and detention since 2002–is nowhere to be found in the indictment. Instead, the prosecution’s case is based on Padilla’s alleged involvement in a wide-ranging, globe-trotting conspiracy.
