ACLU History: For Too Many, Continuing Obstacles to the Ballot Box

The ACLU, in coalition with its many allies, also works to counter a variety of other obstacles to voting, including onerous voter identification requirements, absence of language assistance at the polls, lack of access and information for voters with disabilities, problems with electronic voting machines, the failure to count absentee or provisional ballots, and a host of other issues that crop up with every election.

In an effort to inform people of their rights on Election Day, the ACLU and its affiliates distribute thousands of ‘Know Your Rights’ cards, establish toll-free hotlines, and deploy poll monitors and legal watchdogs to ensure that everyone’s vote counts – and is counted.
