WHAT:
The American Civil Liberties Union and Amnesty International USA will hold a media briefing on the proposed CLOUD Act. Under the bill, Congress would give the executive branch the power to enter into agreements with foreign countries — including ones that threaten human rights activists and violate privacy — allowing them to request digital correspondence and data directly from U.S. tech companies without a warrant or additional review from Congress. It would also allow countries to obtain wiretaps in the United States without complying with U.S. law. The ACLU and Amnesty International USA oppose the bill as a threat to human rights activists worldwide and Americans’ privacy.

WHO:
Neema Singh Guliani, Legislative Counsel, ACLU
Naureen Shah, Senior Director of Campaigns, Amnesty International USA

WHEN:
Thursday, March 15, at 4 p.m.
