WASHINGTON — In May, the Biden administration announced a new rule expanding the Affordable Care Act coverage to Dreamers, asylum applicants, young people applying for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, and human trafficking victims with T-visas.

In response to this news, Deirdre Schifeling, chief political and advocacy officer at the American Civil Liberties Union, said:

“The Biden administration’s new rule is a critical step in the right direction. Many Dreamers and other immigrants have been unable to access basic medical care because they were excluded from Medicare and Medicaid coverage. This new rule will support thousands of longtime residents and ensure more equitable access to affordable healthcare.

“People who are immigrants are integral to the fabric of our nation, contributing to both our economy and our communities. We hope that the administration will continue delivering protections to support Dreamers and other immigrants, including by working with Congress to deliver a pathway to citizenship for these longtime residents.”
