ACLU Calls for Acting FBI Director to Lead Russia Investigation Permanently
WASHINGTON — The American Civil Liberties Union sent a letter today to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his deputy Rod Rosenstein urging them to publicly commit that Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe will either continue to direct the bureau or will permanently lead the Russia investigation.
Faiz Shakir, ACLU national political director, said:
“If this administration values the rule of law, it will pull back and respect the integrity of an independent investigation into whether or not the Trump campaign colluded with Russian officials to influence the outcome of the 2016 election. That means leaving Acting FBI Director McCabe in charge of the investigation instead of a hand-picked ally of this administration who can’t possibly be trusted to run an independent inquiry against the very officials who appointed them.”
