ACLU Comment on Senate Health Care Repeal Impact
WASHINGTON — The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released a report today on the impact of the Senate’s health care repeal bill. Under the legislation titled the “Better Care Reconciliation Act,” the CBO estimates that 22 million people would lose health insurance by 2026. The legislation would also cut $772 billion in federal funding for Medicaid.
Faiz Shakir, American Civil Liberties Union national political director, said:
“Still mean, still heartless. The Senate’s bill would throw 22 million people of our nation’s most vulnerable people off of their insurance, block millions of patients from visiting Planned Parenthood, and enact severe cuts to Medicaid that force people with disabilities into institutions. By rushing to pass this cruel legislation, drafted in secret, the Senate endangers the lives and liberty of women, people of color, and people with disabilities. If you are a Senator who has concerns about the impact that health care repeal legislation might have on vulnerable communities, today’s report should provide you ample reasons to vote no.”
