NEW YORK — The Trump administration’s oft-maligned election commission will hold its second meeting tomorrow — but will not allow members of the public to speak. The meeting is in New Hampshire. The American Civil Liberties Union is challenging the commission’s lack of transparency in court.

President Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by nearly 3 million votes, yet he promotes the lie that voter fraud is to blame. Trump in turn created the commission via executive order. It is led by Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, whom the ACLU has successfully sued numerous times over his voter suppression policies. He was also recently fined by a federal magistrate for making “patently misleading representations to the court” about documents related to the National Voter Registration Act.

Dale Ho, director of the ACLU’s Voting Rights Project, said:

“Donald Trump created this commission because he was humiliated about losing the 2016 popular vote. Then he tapped Kris Kobach, the king of voter suppression, to lead it. Our election process must be secure, fair and transparent, yet Trump and Kobach are using their sham commission to spread the lie of rampant fraud as a Trojan Horse for voter suppression. We won’t let them get away with it.”
