ACLU of Nevada Applauds Demonstrations Against Hate
LAS VEGAS—The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada applauds those standing firm against hate and racism at the University of Nevada tonight.
Organizers of the rally have committed to a nonviolent demonstration, and Reno police have committed to ensuring the free speech rights of those assembled are preserved, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.
The ACLU of Nevada will have legal observers present at the event.
“It is wonderful to see hundreds of UNR students and Reno residents take a stand and speak out against the hateful rhetoric of white supremacists, just as they did on Wednesday during the President’s visit. This is what we mean when we say that you fight hateful speech not with suppression but with more speech. We’re grateful for the Nevadans who are making it clear that hate will never win in Nevada,” ACLU of Nevada Executive Director Tod Story said.
