LAS VEGAS – The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada has named Tod Story as its executive director, effective May 24, 2013. Story had served as interim executive director since February 1, 2013.
Robert N. Chester, president of the board of directors of the Nevada ACLU affiliate, said, “The board is delighted to name Tod as our Executive Director. He was chosen after an extensive, nationwide, four month search. We found his commitment to civil rights, equality and justice in Nevada, together with his energy, enthusiasm and experience to be the right fit for our organization and our mission.”
“I am honored to be chosen as Executive Director of the ACLU of Nevada. The ACLU has a long history of protecting the civil rights, civil liberties, equality, and freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution,” Story said. “Our unwavering commitment to ensuring these rights for every citizen will guide us in working to improve our laws and public policy. I look forward to continuing to address the needs of Nevada’s citizens while defending and advancing our civil rights and freedoms.”
Story has lived in Nevada since 1984, and most recently served as district director for U.S. Representative Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) for 14 years. Prior to working for Congresswoman Berkley, Story was an aide to U.S. Senator Richard Bryan (D-Nev.). He holds a BFA degree in communications, with an emphasis in public relations and political science, from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. At UNLV, he served in student government as Nevada Student Affairs Director. Story has volunteered with community groups and non-profit organizations for many years.
