Hundreds of ACLU Youth Activists to Demand Trump Reunite Immigrant Families
WHAT:
Nearly one thousand high school students from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico will close the third annual American Civil Liberties Union Summer Advocacy Institute with lobby visits to over 80 Congressional offices and a rally to demand all immigrant families be reunited, ending the Trump administration’s cruel immigration policies of family separation. The rally will also feature artwork made by the students on social justice advocacy.
Students participating in the institute will engage with legal experts and political activists, build expertise and knowledge for advocacy campaigns, participate in debates, and develop successful media and social networking strategies, while observing policy development on Capitol Hill. The program will ensure that these young activists are prepared for the political fights ahead both nationally and in their local communities.
The Summer Institute builds upon the ACLU’s efforts to engage in midterm elections and expand its grassroots presence to talk to voters at their homes, on their phones, and in their communities.
