Organizer and Communications Specialist Join Civil Liberties Organization
PORTLAND, ME – The Maine Civil Liberties Union has added two new staff members to its Portland office. Brianna Twofoot has been hired as the MCLU’s new field organizer, and Marian McCue as the new communications specialist.
Brianna Twofoot, a Windham, Maine native, formerly taught in the Mississippi Delta in the Teach for America program and founded a non-profit organization there to promote reproductive health and sexuality education for students. As field organizer, she will lead the MCLU’s education efforts, overseeing the organization’s work in the schools. She will also be responsible for the MCLU’s organizing efforts to mobilize its members to address their representatives on important issues.
“We’re very pleased to have someone of Brianna’s energy and ability join our staff,” said MCLU Executive Director Shenna Bellows. “She brings valuable experience as an organizer, and a deep commitment to our issues, including racial equality and reproductive rights.”
Marian McCue, the new communications specialist, comes to the organization after a long career in journalism, including 16 years as editor of The Forecaster in Falmouth, Maine. Before taking over The Forecaster in 1990, McCue worked at the American Journal in Westbrook, Maine, as well as for media outlets in New York City and Boston. She will lead the MCLU’s media and communications outreach.
“Marian’s long journalism experience will be a great asset to our media efforts,” said Bellows. “We are fortunate to gain her expertise and her passion for civil rights.”
