Statement on Proposed Slidell Panhandling Ordinance
NEW ORLEANS —On October 11th, the ACLU of Louisiana sent a letter to the members of the council, advising them that a proposed ordinance requiring permits for panhandlers violated the Constitution. None of the councilmembers responded to the letter.
The Slidell City Council will meet tomorrow night, October 25, 2016, to discuss and vote on the ordinance. We urge the councilmembers to review the ACLU of Louisiana’s letter and vote against this unnecessary, unconstitutional restriction.
