Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced yesterday that he would reverse an Obama era policy that was aimed to curb the practice of police taking custody of people’s possessions before they are convicted or charged with a crime.

The ACLU, along with many other organizations, including Americans for Prosperity and the Goldwater Institute, sent a bipartisan letter today to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees urging them to reform civil asset forfeiture laws.

Civil asset forfeiture, as the practice is known, is opposed by the majority of Americans and was included in both Democratic and Republican platforms in 2016.
