In these coalition comments, the ACLU and 52 other civil rights and public interest organizations urge the FCC to protect the rights of those in prison by putting in place communications protections. The FCC has undertaken a multi-year effort to cap predatory rates for communications services used in prisons, jails, and immigration detention centers. In these comments, sent on February 8, 2016, the coalition encourages the Commission to address pricing abuses in advanced communication and video visitation; cap international calling rates; protect the communication rights of deaf, hard of hearing, and disabled inmates; and collect data on the prison phone industry.
