This year we marked the 30th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark decision establishing a woman's right to abortion. Girls grow up today never having known a time when illegal, degrading, and sometimes fatal abortions were common. But it is also true that for more and more women - especially poor women, young women, women living in rural areas -- legal abortions are increasingly out of reach. In the last eight years alone, states have enacted more than 330 measures restricting reproductive freedom. These restrictions curtail access to not only abortion but also to contraceptives, sexuality education, and other essential reproductive health care services.
Come out and be counted among the majority: Pro-Choice Americans. Show lawmakers that they must stop chipping away at reproductive freedom and stop playing politics with women's health and lives.
In the coming months, this website will feature information about how you can get involved in efforts to protect access to reproductive health care by joining the ACLU delegation as we March for Women's Lives in April 2004. In the meantime, please mark your calendars. You can also e-mail us at: rfp@aclu.org, or contact your local ACLU affiliate.
